Paraguayan Flag Day is a special date of the national calendar that is celebrated every August 14 in honor of this national symbol, which identifies us as it was born throughout the world. This 2021, this national symbol celebrates 179 years of being waving high.
Read on and discover why our country's Flag Day is celebrated on this day in August.
Origin of the Paraguayan Flag Day
Flag Day is celebrated on August 14 because this date recalls the day that the Governing Board officially adopted Paraguay as the national emblem. However, making a trip back in time, the first time that the flag that we currently use was raised was on August 15, 1812 , that is, 209 years ago, in the Plaza de Armas in Asunción.
Because the day the flag was raised coincided with the Asunción Foundation , it was decided to spend a day before the celebration of Flag Day . This is the reason why the Governing Board chose the date of August 14 to celebrate this national symbol.
Likewise, the two shields that are part of the tricolor were also added that same year by a provision of the Extraordinary Congress of the National Parliament, on November 15, 1842.
Currently, the Flag of Paraguay has two shields located on both sides; one is the coat of arms of the Republic and the coat of arms on the reverse is the seal of the Treasury.
